An Exorcist Mini-series?

So, an interesting rumor has been spreading across the internet involving a possible new Exorcist project.

Now I know that most of you read that sentence and roll your eyes as you start to get upset about Hollywood taking another perfectly good classic and ruining it with a remake. Well I ask you to hold off on your judgement while I explain the few points that may make this project different.

First of all, the project would be a mini-series rather than a remake of the movie. Hopefully this shift in medium will help to spark some new ideas and perhaps the new structure could make for an interesting take on one of horror’s best known films.

More importantly, it would seem that William Peter Blatty would be interested in/already has been writing a new script and that William Friedkin may be onboard to return to the director’s chair for the project.  If this falls into place we could have a very interesting phenomena where the two original creators of the film team up again to create something new but true to the original.  I mean if Hollywood has to mess with our beloved classics, the best we could hope for is that the original creators have some sort of input or control over it.

While of course I feel they should be cautious while tampering with a legend, I am willing to give it a chance. After all, it has to be better than Monopoly or Battleship movie…
