Famous Monsters

An Open Letter From Robert Aragon

Posted by sean in Events, Latest News on November 10th, 2009

Dear Friends of FM,

As many of you know, I am an aficionado of classic horror films. My imagination was weaned on Karloff, Lugosi, Chaney and well, the original run of Famous Monsters of Filmland, created by Forrest J Ackerman.

As a child, I never dreamt one could live a life where the indulgence of imagination is not only encouraged but rewarded. Dreams do come true, no question about that.

Unfortunately, all things have a price. All the responsibilities and commitments as a member of the New FM are rather taxing on me, as I have a medical condition which has recently resurfaced. I expect to make a full recovery, but to do so, I must devote most of my time and energy towards healing – plus plenty of classical piano playing. Music is food for the soul (good music, that is!).

As an artist and man, I am not able to compromise the quality and integrity of my work. Suffice it to say, my contributions to FM must be of a limited nature. I shall continue working with my dear friend and brother Philip Kim, but in what capacity? Only time will tell.

One thing I have learned from the classic tales of imagination is: the future is a mysterious realm full of unimaginable possibilities.

As always, I send you hugs and love,

Me

What sad news, although I’m glad to hear you will focused on the right thing — healing yourself. But this will be a big blow to the magazine and its projects, as your brilliant visual sense and love of classic monsters will be difficult, if not impossible, to replace…
