As you may or may not have heard by now, Broadway is working to adapt everyone’s favorite wall crawler into the musical world. According to THR they have finally found their lead, rock singer Reeve Carney will be donning the spandex and web shooters for the Broadway show, titled Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark.
The grand musical, directed by Julie Taymor with a score by Bono and The Edge of U2, is recovering from financial setbacks and now has a budget of well over $40 million. It is scheduled to open sometime in 2010 at the Hilton Theatre, which has undergone extensive renovations in order to make it Spidey-worthy.
Reeve Carney, lead singer for the rock band Carney, has just released the band’s first album and he will be playing the role of Ferdinand in an upcoming adaptation of The Tempest. Other cast members of Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark include Evan Rachel Wood as Mary Jane Watson and Alan Cumming as Norman Osborn aka the Green Goblin.
The talent is there, no question about it. Taymor’s The Lion King has made over 3 billion dollars, Bono has sold millions and millions of records, Evan Rachel Wood has been finding success on the big screen… Now if only the finances could get in order this behemoth of a show might actually make it off the ground!
