Dexter Review: “Road Kill”

Posted by Barrett in Latest News, Reviews, Television & Web Series on November 17th, 2009

Another episode of Dexter, and another unused kill room.

Picture 10That being said, we did get some interesting glimpses into Arthur Mitchell aka. the Trinity Killer’s origin. Dexter had already discovered that Trinity’s family was dead, but it turns out we still didn’t know the whole truth. But how did Dexter get Trinity to explain his past? Simple… on accident.

When Dex learns that Trinity is headed out of town he fears that Trinity’s kill cycle is already starting back up.  Up until now, Dex hasn’t killed Trinity because he isn’t a threat to anyone for the time being. With this theory falling apart, Dex rushes to come up with an excuse to join Trinity on his trip as well as a workable alibi for both Rita and the cops.

Picture 18Finding a meteorological convention near Trinity’s destination, Dexter manages to convince LaGuerta that it was applicable to blood spatter and Rita that it is actually a topic he is very interested. His geeky speeches succeed and he packs his bags, carefully choosing just the right killing weapon, and he heads out, leaving Rita alone with the kids and helpful neighbor Elliot (who we saw fighting with his girlfriend las weekend and now is apparently veryyy close to Rita).

Under his guise as Kyle Butler, Dex jumps Trinity as he is about to leave and insists that he (Kyle) is having a crisis and that Trinity is the only person who can help him.  Trinity is anything but enthused, and spends the drive badgering Dexter to open up to him. Then the unexpected happens. Dexter admits to killing a man, although Trinity is under the impression that it was during some sort of hunting accident.

Things continue to head in a strange direction when Trinity pulls an emotional 180, apparently free of remorse, and he happily takes Dexter to his childhood home, where he proceeds to reveal the awful truth about his sister, mother, and father… although it isn’t quite what we were expecting.

Faced with all the deaths that Trinity is responsible for, as well as finally understanding where Trinity’s Dark Passenger was born, Dex finally decides that enough is enough and it is time to kill Trinity. Finally. But wait! When Dex sneaks into Trinity’s room he is no where to be found.

Picture 16Dex hunts him down on the rooftop of a construction site only to find that Trinity is about to jump to his death. Determined to be the one responsible for Trinity’s death, Dexter shockingly saves him, which leaves the religious killer believing that God had sent Dexter to him.

Picture 14Back in Miami, we are brought some fresh new drama and tension rather than the usual dry subplots and pointless romances that we have had to deal with over the past weeks.  Deb first manages to convince LaGuerta that there is indeed a Trinity Killer, putting the cops on Trinity’s trail for the rest of the season.  As if that wasn’t enough, she also scoured over the evidence long enough to conclude, with the help of Masuka, that Trinity isn’t actually responsible for Lundy’s death.  But if it wasn’t Trinity, who was it?  The evidence puts a great twist on some storylines that have been rather bland and outright stupid up until now.

The final episodes of the season have always been Dexter’s strongest and now, according to the previews for next week’s episode, things seem to be finally be heating up for the finale.

This season has stunk on ice, getting dexter married to rita was stupid move story wise.
