No Jetsons In Rodriguez’ Future

Robert Rodriguez has long been attached to the live-action Jetsons adaptation from Warner Bros., one of a long, long list of projects the filmmaker is currently involved in. However, after a number of production snags, including a few rewrites and a lack of actors (Jim Carrey was approached for the role of George Jetson, but had no interest in the project), it seems the director has left the project in search of greener pastures.
Rodriguez’ probable replacement is Peter Segal, the director of Tommy Boy, Get Smart, and Anger Management. It’s a bit of a downgrade, sure, but Segal’s certainly a better fit for the project. While Tommy Boy has long been worshiped by college students and stoners everywhere, the director’s strength certainly seems to lie in creating lukewarm comedies that nobody gets very excited about. And, frankly, I don’t see how a live-action Jetsons could be anything but.
And, of course, there’s no doubt that Rodriguez has other things to keep him busy. He’s currently editing Machete, producing Predators, and writing SpyKids 4. Maybe nixing Jetsons will give him enough free time to finally get to work on the Sin City sequel… though, of course, I won’t get my hopes up just yet.
