The Pit and The Pendulum

When we today look back at classic sci-fi, horror and fantasy films and their traditional techniques, we should remember that their creators were themselves often looking to the past for inspiration.  Edgar Allan Poe’s 1840 short story “The Pit and The Pendulum” has been filmed several times, but Marc Lougee’s is the first in stop-motion – a remarkable achievement!

Synopsis: A victim of the Spanish Inquisition is brought before a tribunal where he is condemned and sentenced to the dungeons. Awaiting his death, he struggles with hope and faith, while his captors employ fiendish machinations in their efforts to unhinge him.
