What’s the World’s Tallest Ice Sculpture?

It’s Scrat!! What’s a Scrat you ask? He’s the lovable squirrel with an insatiable appetite for acorns from Twentieth Century Fox’s Ice Age movies.
Coinciding with the Blu-ray and DVD release for Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and the Ice Bulb company broke the Guinness World Record for Tallest Ice Sculpture. The sculpture, depicting Scrat and a giant acorn, measured in at a “mammoth” 48 feet tall, shattering the previous record by 8 feet. That’s over four stories!! It used over 133,000 pounds of ice, gathered across four states, and used a team of 14 skilled sculptors for four straight days to finish the job.
This new record was verified by Guinness World Records official, Danny Girton Jr. who was on-site to inspect the sculpture. “The effort and workmanship that went into creating this ice sculpture is truly astounding. This type of record takes serious time and commitment and we’re happy to recognize a new Guinness World Record today,” Girton said.
The coolest animated comedy of the year, the Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs Three-Disc Combo Pack (Blu-ray, DVD and a Digital Copy) is available now and provides hours of extra fun for the entire family including an Ice Age digital story book maker, commentary by director Carlos Saldanha, deleted scenes, making-of featurettes, two special Scrat shorts, a how-to-draw Scrat tutorial with the filmmakers and much more.
For those of you who are interested, here is a time-lapse video of them constructing the sculpture. Personally, I think it winds up looking like some sort of depressing ice tree or something but hey, its still 4 stories tall!
